Simple, accurate and reliable kinetic spectrophotometric method has been developed for the quantitative determination of thiamine hydrochloride (vitB1), in pure and pharmaceutical.
formulations. This method is based on kinetic investigation of the oxidation reaction of the drug with alkaline potassium permanganate at room temperature. The increase in absorbance of the colored manganate ion was measured at 610 nm. The initial rate and fixed time methods were adopted for constructing the calibration curves. The linearity range was found to be 2.50-17.5μg/mL and 2.5-20.0μg/mL for initial rate and fixed time method, respectively. The correlation coefficient for initial rate and fixed time methods are 0.9923 and 0.9970, respectively. The proposed methods have been successfully applied to the determination of (vitB1) in pharmaceutical dosage forms with no interference with the excipients. Statical comparison of the results shows that there is no significant difference between the proposed methods and pharmacopeial method.
