A simple, sensitive, accurate, and precise spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of Ranitidine Hydrochloride in pure form and pharmaceutical formulation. The method-involved treatment of cited Ranitidine Hydrochloride with a measured excess of permanganate in acid medium and the decrease unreacted was measured at 525nm. All the experimental variables affecting the development of the manganite ions were investigated and conditions were optimized.
Working linearity range was 4.35-21.76μg/mL. The correlation coefficient is 0.9991. The apparent molar absorptivity is 2.49×10^4 L/mol.cm. With corresponding Sandell’s sensitivity values of 0.0280μg/cm^2. The limit of detection were 1.79μg/mL.
The method has successfully been applied to the determination of Ranitidine Hydrochloride in dosage forms.
