Performance Analysis in Software Defined Networks (SDNs)

Abstract:

Large emerging trends (i.e big data) in ICTs face new challenges for the Internet in the future, where ubiquitous access, high bandwidth and dynamic management are crucial. However, traditional manual-based approaches to proprietary equipment are error-prone and can not fully take advantage of the physical network infrastructure. Recently, software defined networks (SDNs) have been defined as one of the most promising Internet solutions in the future and as the transition to it has become a practical necessity. We have demonstrated that this transition will lead to significant benefits; increasing performance, improving network behavior and making it more flexible for testing and management purposes, by analyzing and comparing the performance factors in both SDN and Traditional networks. We have studied the SDN structures and compared the values of the performance factors between them, within SDN's central structure we compared the existence of one controller responsible for all network operations and the presence of two distributed controllers, we proceeded to compare the central structure and distributed architecture of SDN networks .
