The College of Translation and Languages at the Arab Private University for Science and Technology is considered one of the fundamental pillars that keep pace with the University’s ongoing development. Throughout its academic journey, the College has sought excellence, the advancement of education, and the achievement of the highest quality standards. In this regard, it has attained a distinguished status, which has had a significant impact on graduating successive cohorts who have enriched the nation with well-trained cadres. These graduates have drawn upon the linguistic and literary knowledge provided by a modern educational institution equipped with advanced educational technologies, and they have acquired this knowledge under the guidance of a select group of faculty members who have demonstrated their competence in contributing to the realization of the University’s mission and vision. Thus, excellence and creativity in education have become the cornerstone of the vision of the College of Translation and Languages.
We aspire to achieve more and to do better, in a manner consistent with the College’s mission of serving society and disseminating knowledge and education, and in fulfillment of its vision that the Arab Private University for Science and Technology be the preferred choice under the highest standards of quality. Our path is purposeful and our journey infused with creativity, serving as a mirror through which we engage with society to enhance knowledge and understanding in the fields of language and translation, to raise awareness, and to serve the community by graduating holders of a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature who are qualified to integrate into the labor market and to contribute effectively to community service and development. Throughout their academic journey, students acquire the core skills of learning English—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—in accordance with its grammatical rules and linguistic conventions.
Students also become familiar with various modes of translation and strategies for addressing the challenges translators encounter when translating texts from diverse fields. Moreover, our students engage in the study of linguistics, sociolinguistics, and methods of teaching English as a foreign language. They study the art of the English novel through an in-depth exploration of works that have achieved worldwide recognition, as well as the development of English drama and the prominent role of Shakespeare’s plays, whose performances continue to fill the theaters of the British capital to this day. English poetry likewise holds a special place within the College, where students appreciate the beauty of poetic imagery and linguistic creativity. When a passion for language intertwines with the richness of literature, the spark of creativity is ignited; our students excel and distinguish themselves, thereby affirming that the College of Translation and Languages is capable of providing society with generations of outstanding graduates who contribute to the prosperity of their homeland. Accordingly, we invite our students to seek further knowledge and learning and to emulate their professors in linguistic competence, expertise, and noble values, in a manner that fulfills the mission and objectives of the College and the University. Beloved Syria deserves from us an intensification of efforts—each in their respective field—and our field is knowledge: fruitful yet demanding.
(Strive with steadfast determination that knows no retreat;
if one but knew the true worth of knowledge, one would never sleep.)
