A specialized workshop on "Museum and Palace Architecture in Syria" at the Faculty of Architecture

Under the patronage of Professor Adnan Younis, President of the Arab University for Science and Technology, the Faculty of Architecture organized a workshop entitled "Architecture of Museums and Palaces in Syria" on May 12, 2025, at the university auditorium (dental clinics). A group of lecturers specializing in historical and heritage architecture participated in the workshop.

During the workshop, University President Dr. Adnan Younis emphasized that preserving authentic Syrian architecture represents a national and cultural duty, given its historical symbolism that reflects Syria's rich cultural identity. He pointed to the importance of integrating academic and student efforts in studying and documenting this architecture and enhancing it with concepts of contemporary architectural innovation.

The workshop included three specialized lectures, beginning with a lecture on the Azm Palace as an icon of Eastern architecture, focusing on its aesthetic and decorative details and its role. Representing the traditional Eastern lifestyle, this was followed by a second lecture that discussed architectural renewal in museum design and the importance of achieving a balance between preserving historical identity and incorporating modern architectural techniques. The workshop concluded with a lecture on the National Museum of Damascus and its role as a cultural center that reflects the spirit of Syrian civilization throughout the ages and contributes to shaping historical awareness and national identity. Dr. Mustafa Al-Masry, Vice President of the University, and Dr. Ali Al-Issa, Dean of the College of Architecture, participated in the workshop, along with a number of faculty members and students, who demonstrated remarkable interaction with the workshop's themes and the architectural visions and development ideas presented. At the conclusion of the workshop, the college administration distributed certificates of thanks and appreciation to the participating lecturers, in appreciation of their knowledge and efforts in shedding light on important aspects of Syrian historical architecture.
