Pharmacovigilance is the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other possible drug-related problems. Three areas of pharmacovigilance include: Adverse Drug Reactions, Medication Errors and Pharmaceutical Products Quality. Pharmacovigilance is one of the considered Guidelines in the International Council of Harmonization (ICH) as this concept is closely related to the quality and safety of drugs and post-marketing drug surveillance. Pharmacovigilance system has been activated in many developing and developed countries while the Syrian experience is still inactivated. To ensure the importance of pharmacovigilance concept and to evaluate its prevalence among physicians, a questionnaire containing 29 relevant questions has been designed and 182 copies of it were distributed to 182 physicians to collect relevant informations. In conclusion, a large proportion of physicians don't know about pharmacovigilance, and there is no formal system followed by them to report drug-related problems, and in the case of reporting, about 73% of them use the phone, and the most of theminform Physicians Syndicate about drug-related problems while some physicians inform the manufacturer or its representatives. At the end of this work, a sample of reporting card was designed to be filled by physicians with informations about adverse drug reactions which can help to build up a pharmacovigilance system.
