This research has been interested in the production of new building materials that have advantages of insulation and mechanical strength using two different materials; polystyrene foam formed through expansion and fiber of lufa. These were mixed with 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30%, lufa fibers. Samples were subjected to a number of experiments to identify the properties of insulation and mechanical strength. As a result of these experiments, we have concluded that increasing the fiber density to the polystyrene foam formed through expansion, will reduce its
thermal conductivity and its resistance against compression. on the other hand, its absorption to moisture will also increase. More experiences showed that using the ratio of 20% fiber achieved as low as possible conductivity, low absorption and good compression resistance. We recommend that other materials could be tested for better insulation with minimum moisture absorption.
