Herbal medicines receive attention as they are believed to be safer and healthier than synthetic medicines. Many studies indicate cases of adulteration herbal medicines by adding non-declared traditional synthetic medicines to herbal preparations, which are added because of their low price and rapid and noticeable effect.
The current study aims to evaluate the quality of herbal preparations used in the treatment of joint and muscle pain by detecting the possibility of the presence of unauthorized pharmacological analgesic substances: Diclofenac sodium, ketoprofen, indomethacin, dexamethasone and prednisolone acetate. This study covers 6 samples of analgesic herbal preparations. Locally marketed, analyzed by IR spectroscopy. In the results of the examination, by comparing the qualitative peaks of the studied substances with the peaks of herbal preparations, showed that a sample of the preparations contains diclofenac sodium and prednisolone acetate.
