A simple, sensitive, accurate, and precise spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of Oxybutynin Hydrochloride in pure form and pharmaceutical formulation.
The method-involved treatment of Oxybutynin Hydrochloride with potassium permanganate in an alkaline medium, by measuring the increase in the absorbance value at the maximum absorption wavelength of 610nm. All the experimental variables affecting the development of the reaction were investigated and conditions were optimized.
Working linearity range was 4.00-45.00 μg/mL. The correlation coefficient is 0.9994. The apparent molecular absorptivity is 1.51×10^4 L/mol.cm. With corresponding Sandell’s sensitivity values of 0.052 μg/cm^2 . The limit of detection were 0.0347 μg/mL.
The method has successfully been applied to the determination of Oxybutynin Hydrochloride in dosage forms.
