The College of Translation and Languages invites you to attend a lecture on the English language entitled Culture and LanguageThe lecture will be delivered by Dr. Talal Al-Khalil, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Translation and LanguagesOn Monday, January 23, 2023, at 1:00 pm, in the Facultys of Medicine Amphitheater The lecture will address the relationship between culture and language and the importance of the role that learning other languages plays in understanding the cultures of different peoples and building bridges that enhance social interaction.Enriching the learner's knowledge stock so that speaking English becomes a natural and familiar thing, not a heavy burden that carries with it strangeness. As part of the scientific activities organized by the Faculty of Translation and Languages at Al-Arabiya Private University for Science and Technology, Dr Talal Alkhalil (the Vice Dean) gave a lecture entitled "Culture and Language, in which he talked about the relationship between these two concepts, how each affects the other, and the role which learning other languages plays in understanding other cultures and building bridges that can enhance social interaction and enrich the learner's repertoire, making him/her able to speak the foreign language naturally and smoothly without sounding foreign as there are certain cultural concepts that may cause misunderstanding if interpreted incorrectly. Dr Alkhalil also shed light on some of the teaching methods that focus on giving culture a large part in language teaching courses so that learners become equipped with sociocultural competence, which is necessary for social interaction between speakers of different languages.

As part of the scientific activities organized by thr Faculty of Translation and Languages, Professor Wasif Al-Salami ( The Dean of the Faculty ) gave a lecture entitled ( Teaching the Novel for Students of the Department of English ) in which he talked about the following points. - The novel as a literary genre- Its constituents - Its forms - Its types - Its aims. - The factors which led to the rise of the English novel. - The realistic novel as a new way of presentation. - The important novelists at the earlier beginning of the English like Daniel Defoe, Henry Fielding , and Samuel Richardson .- The concern of the earlier novelists with giving moral instruction to the readers for the sake of reforming what is wrong .- The way of studying the novel by the students in preparing for their exam.
